Mersea Island's south facing beach is a mix of sand and shingle, it is a great place to build sandcastles, explore or just sit and watch the world go by. Beach huts line the Victoria Esplanade area of the beach.
It is worth taking some beach/surf shoes with you as there are a lot of oyster shells on the beach and although they are very pretty they are not kind to feet! If you haven’t got any, don't worry, they sell them in The Two Sugars Café.
The beach is tidal, to check tide times go to https://www.tidetimes.org.uk/west-mersea-tide-times
Don't forget to check the tide times before your visit as The Strood (the main road on and off the Island) can be covered by the tide for up to an hour and half either side of high tide (depending on the height of the tide).
