Beach Hut Hire FAQs — Everything You Need to Know

 

Booking & Availability

 

Q: How do I book a beach hut?
A: Booking is easy! You can reserve your hut directly on the website. Just choose your dates, select your hut, and you’re all set

Q: When are the beach huts available?
A: The beach huts are available year-round from 9.30amd to 7pm giving you plenty of time to enjoy your day.

 

Each hut has a key safe for easy access. Your code is sent 2 days before arrival, along with helpful information to make your day stress-free.

Q: Are there popular beach hut dates I should book early for?

A: Yes, bank holidays, spring and summer weekends, school holidays, Easter, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day fill up quickly. Plan ahead to secure your favourite dates!

Q: Is there a minimum or maximum hire period?
A: Huts can be booked for one day or multiple consecutive days (up to 14 days). If you want multiple consecutive days during school holidays or summer, it’s best to book early

Q. Do you have any beach huts next to each other for larger groups?

Mersea

A:Mersea 206 and 213 are very cloes together with just 7 huts apart. and Mersea 245 is next door to another beach hut which can be rented in addition taking the capacity to a maximum of 16 (8 per beach hut). Please contact me for details.

Frinton 

A.We don't have any adjacent or close beach huts at Frinton.

Q: How much does it cost to hire a beach hut?
A: Here are our beach hut hire prices for 2026

January February and March

£80 Weekdays - £85 Weekends

April

£85 Weekdays - £100 Weekends and Bank Holidays

May + June

£90 Weekdays - £100 Weekends and Bank Holidays

 

July + August

£100 Weekdays - Weekends and Bank Holidays

 

September

£90 Weekdays - £100 Weekends

 

October, November + December

£80 Weekdays - £85 Weekends and Christmas Week​​

Q: Are there any beach hut discounts or offers available?
A: We often run seasonal discounts and you can get a 10% OFF your first booking by signing up to our email newsletter (we don't bombard just the good stuff) see the Homepage for details.

Cancellation + Amendments

 

Q: What happens if I need to cancel or amend my beach hut booking?
A: Here is our cancellation and amendment policy

  • Free cancellation or date change up to 7 full days before your hire.

  • Cancellations within 7 full days incur a £45 admin fee per hire day.

  • NO cancellations or refunds within 48 hours of your hire day.

In exceptional circumstances (e.g., extreme weather), we may offer alternative dates at our discretion, typically outside of peak season (July–August) and weekend dates.

Beach Hut Facilities & Features

Q: How many people can I bring to the beach huts?
A:The huts can accommodate up to 8 people (including children and babies) and two well behaved dogs. We kindly ask that this limit is respected to ensure everyone’s safety, comfort and to maintain good relations with neighbours and other beach goers. We also ask that you stay within the boundaries of your hut and don’t encroach on neighbouring huts.

Q, What is provided in the beach huts?

A. A: Each hut comes fully equipped, so you don’t have to overpack!

 

Seating and Kitchen

  • Our signature L-shaped seating (comfortably seats 4-6 people)

  • 4 Deckchairs for outside seating 

  • Kitchen with 2-ring gas hob, gas, sink, stove lighter/matches

  • Cutlery, plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, wine glasses

  • Saucepans, frying pan, kettle

Food and Drink Basics

  • Complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate and milk sachets

  • Salt and pepper sachets and vinegar

  • Water carrier (please note The Council may turn off the taps from October up to and including March so plan accordingly)

Entertainment & Beach Gear

  • Beach toys, buckets + spades

  • Board games, colouring-in, cards, binoculars

  • Windbreak and mallet (Mersea)

  • Parasol and base (Mersea)

  • Tide Tables (in welcome pack, please do not remove)

 

Cleaning items

  • Dish cloth, tea towel, washing up liquid, bowl, dustpan & brush, bin bag

  • We kindly ask you to wash up any dishes or utensils used to help us prepare the hut for the next guests.

Safety Items

  • First Aid Kit, fireblanket, small Fire extinguisher

Q: Do the beach huts have fridges?

A: No as there is no electricity, please bring a cool bag

Q: Do the beach huts have running water?
A: No, but there are water taps nearby and a water carrier in each hut. You can also bring your own water. (The council may turn off taps from October–April, so plan accordingly.

Q: Are there toilets nearby?
A: Yes, public facilities are within a minute’s walk. Mersea also has an accessible loo block with Radar key access.

Q: How far is parking?
A: Frinton: Along the Greensward (free, ~200m from huts) blue badge sections available.
Mersea: Victoria Esplanade Carpark behind huts. Blue badg sections available. less than a minutes walk to the beach huts.

Q: Is there a play park nearby.

A: Mersea has a small park suitable for children under 10. A minutes walk from the beach huts.

Q. Are there cafes and fish and chips nearby?

A: Yes, please see our Mersea Food page and Frinton Food page for more details. There are two cafes close to the beach huts (a minutes walk). Nearest Fish and Chips shop is a short 4 minute drive.

Q. Can I get food delivered to my beach hut?

A: Yes, please see our Mersea Food page and Frinton Food page for more details

Q. Can you put up a banner up for birthdays and or arrange for balloons or picnic set ups?

A: We can arrange for a birthday banner to put up for you (free of charge, just let us know)

If you would like balloons or a picnic set up then we recommend

Accessibility 

Q: Are the beach huts wheelchair or mobility-friendly?
A:
Many are, but it varies by hut. Check the specific hut page for details.

  • Beach wheelchair hire is available at Mersea.

Q: Which beach huts have the least steps?

A: Frinton: Frinton 188 is directly on the prom so a threshold step of approx 15cm. Mersea All beach huts are on the beach so a step up to the decking (approx 20cm)

Q: Is there an accessible loo close by?

A. Yes, There is Changing Places facility in the Victoria Esplanade carpark (behind the beach huts).

Dog Friendly Beach Huts

 

Q: Are dogs allowed in the beach huts?
A: Absolutely! up to two dogs are welcome.

What is provided for dogs in the beach huts?

  • A water bowl

  • Dog treats

  • Spare poop bags

  • A doggy parking station where you can attach your dogs lead is provided on each beach hut.

 

Q: Are there any beach restrictions for dogs?

  • Mersea: The beach is dog-friendly year-round.

  • Frinton 188: This area of beach is dog-friendly all year.

  • Frinton 343:  This area of beach - dogs not allowed May 1–Sept 31 on the beach (allowed on leads on prom; dog-friendly beach a minute walk away).

Other Beach Hut Questions We Get Asked 

Q: Will Tide Times Affect My Day?

  • Mersea: High tides can cover the Strood for up to 1.5 hours, usually if high tide is between 12–3:30. Call for advice.

  • Frinton: Tide doesn’t affect access, but good to check for planning your beach day.

  • Tide tables included in all beach hut welcome packs , please do not remove

Q: Can you sleep in the beach huts?

A: No the beach huts are only suitable for day hire. Contact us for accommodation recommendations.

Q: Do you have beach hut gift vouchers?

A: Yes, we have both postal gift vouchers and E-gift vouchers
